The Cattle Call General Audition

It was a day for renewing old acquaintances and greeting newcomers; for getting a reality check on measurements; for learning What Supering is All About (you know: long mind-numbing waits for short bursts of activity). The General Call on July 31st in Zellerbach A was controlled chaos, as Supers and Wannabes were herded through the Stations of the Cross (referring to the dispositions of the costume department workers -- just kidding).

Our heads and bodies were measured separately (removal of heads was not involved); we had our photos taken; and we were interviewed by ADs, ASMs, a Stage Manager, or the Super Coordinator herself. We were then free to grab a few munchies and take one of the classes offered: a talk on the basics (Who's Who?, Rehearsal Etiquette, Stage Etiquette, Costumes) by AD Helena Binder and ASM Quincy Bruckerhoff and / or a more advanced class led by AD Kathleen Smith on bringing a character to life, which involved exercises and a bit on method acting and sense-memory. Nearly two hundred people survived the ritual, and a good time was had by all.
