Casting and Scheduling Subcommittee News

In response to concerns raised last season, the Super Committee has formed a Casting and Scheduling Subcommittee. The Subcommittee (consisting of Rob Wonder, Alan Goes and Laurel Winzler) has met with the Production Department staff and presented some of the complaints regarding last-minute casting, repeated schedule changes, misinformation regarding schedules, etc.

The company is in agreement that scheduling changes need to be kept to a minimum, and agrees that directors should be reminded that Supers are volunteers and are not paid to be "on call" like the chorus and principals. While schedule changes are unavoidable, our common goal is to educate directors and assistant directors regarding the impact this has on Supers and to encourage them to minimize the number of changes that are made. The addition of a new Production Coordinator, Kristin Chang, will hopefully improve scheduling and improve the notification process when changes are made.

The Subcommittee will be meeting again with the Production Department to explore ways to expedite casting decisions, so that Supers have earlier notification that they are cast and more lead time to adjust their schedules for rehearsals.
