Little Annie Fanny

For 26 years, beginning in October of 1962, cartoonists Harvey Kurtzman (the founding editor of MAD magazine) and Will Elder (one of MAD's original artists) collaborated in the pages of Playboy on an elaborately painted satirical comic stip chronicling the adventures of a modern Candide named Little Annie Fanny. (Later episodes also showed the artistic touches of Jack Davis, Al Jaffee, Frank Frazetta and the like.) Perhaps her finest moment came during a strip entitled "Opera Diva" (in the January 1985 issue), in which she was a Super in Die Walküre. The strip can be seen in Volume 2 of the complete reprint edition (Dark Horse, 2001).
