SFO Supers Reach Out to New Orleans Opera

You may have noticed the Mardi Gras-inspired donation box at the fall season bake sales. The Super Committee collected donations to aid the New Orleans Opera in its recovery from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. A grand total of $178 was collected. It took several weeks and many tries, but we were finally able to contact the New Orleans Opera Association in its new offices last week.

Executive Director Marci Schramm said that while they have received many donations in the past few months to help the opera rebuild, the donation from the Supernumeraries of the San Francisco Opera touched them deeply.

The first two productions of their season had to be cancelled, but they will soon announce a season-opening gala in March, with Placido Domingo volunteering his services for the evening. According to Schramm, the San Francisco Opera Supernumeraries will be listed in the program book.
